Class in Bouveret

So today we started class in Bouveret, Switzerland. I woke up in time to look ok for class... got a shower at least haha. The breakfast was a little depressing. No fruit, just meat, cheese and bread and juice. BUT they also have a wide variety or cereal, so i will get by. Although I must admit after seeing this I was really worried that this was going to be worse than the Stayokay in Maastricht, if that is possible. We went to class and met our teacher. He seems really cool and the class seems good and interesting. A lot lot lot better than the other class! It's not just the theory of hospitality. It is actually about food and the history and the different types. I think I am going to enjoy this class a lot more.

For the first half we just had ice breakers and got to talk about our travels so far and how it related to food and such. And then he passed out these giant work books that he made for us, but after flipping through them they look pretty interesting. They have a lot of good articles and then just some of the power points he goes through in class. Then we had lunch. OHHHHH lunch!!! It is amamazing. AHHH mazing! Especially compared to what we have been eating! Before I left my mom told me just to eat a big lunch so i wouldn't have to buy dinner. haha ok mom. At the last place I would have had to eat a lot of hard boiled eggs, breakfast turkey and cheese to do that. But here! Oh they fed us ribs and chicken or beef curry with rice and fruit and salad. It is so good! We are all so happy we don't even know what to do. Actually we do... eat.

Then we went back to class with food comas and tried not to fall asleep. Unsuccesful. But I did try. After class we went to the grocery store because I needed a converter to charge my phone. I brought about 7 different chargers and didn't need any of them. Not one. I had been keeeping them until I got to Switzerland just in case I could use them here... I couldn't so I left them all in Zermatt. Sorry Bill, had to loose all the weight in the pack that I could. And then what happens? I ask eddi, my Austrailian roomate, if i can borrow one of her adapters and what do I need? What I left on my bed in Zermatt. Ugh! I didn't plan on needing to adapt to Austrailian plugs... don't know what I was thinking travelling around Europe and all. haha so I bought a new one. Then julie and I walked around the water for a little while and checked out some potential spots to jump in the lake. They have this little "swimming pool" which is built into the lake and is only 2 feet deep and has bars on the side so the lake water can come in and out. Not too much of a pool if you ask me... but what do I know? Im not 6.

After that I just played around on the interet, which we have now full time! ahhh. and then I ate ramen and went down to hang out with everyone grilling. The whole group went and bought meat at the market and charcoal to grill. It looked pretty good but I'm trying to stick to the poor man's diet. The top ramen was GREAT! haha. I left to try to figure out how to use skype so I quit running up the phone bill and then went back down to the party. There is nothing to do in this town. No bars, no hangout, nothing. We could go do some outdoor activities but we get out of class so late that its kinda hard. I think I might try to find a hike to go on later in the week. I ended up just sitting around watching everyone drink and talking and then went to bed around midnight. I have a feeling there isn't going to be a lot to write about the next couple days, as there isn't too much going on besides class and. Well probably just class. Haha but we only have 4 more days until we head off to Italy! Should be great!
Love you all!

Traveling and Bouveret

So today we woke up at the crack of dawn to catch the train to take the scenic train to Montreaux. Luckily my bag was all packed so all I had to do was roll out of bed and put on clothes. We all walked down to the train station and took a few last pictures and then headed off for the main train station. When we got there we had about 30 minutes to spare so I bought the official Tour de France guide... in french mind you. Didn't figure there was any possibility of me finding it in any language I could read. So we got on the train and headed off to Montreaux on Lake Geneva. It was the scenic train ride and it was goregous but i'm not sure it was worth it. It took about 3 hours and we had already been on trains like that one. Majority of the people slept through the entire thing, so they didn't see anything, and I wrote a blog for half of it so I didn't see too much either. Oh well when we got there on top of the mountains over looking the cities and the lake it was beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice.

Our original plan was to watch the Swiss world cup game in Montreaux and then head over to Geneva on the train later. Well after the pretty train ride people decided they wanted to take the boat over and look at the scenery. I was meeting up with Grace who had just gotten into town so that wasn't really an option for me. Julie decided to stay and watch the game with us, but after a lot of locker and group drama decided to just take the boat too. So I met up with Grace and had lunch and then we walked around for a while. We were looking for a pub or something to go sit at but it was impossible to find. We ended up just deciding to meet up another day.

So today I said bye to Grace and i was in a hurry to catch my train. Wasn't sure if I was at the right place but I thought I was so I got on the train. stupid. I went and asked this old lady if it stopped there. She didn't speak english. And now the train is moving.... haha. So I asked the teenagers next to her. They didn't speak english either but we have established i'm on the wrong train. I can tell the old lady is really concerned for me. I got off at the next stop and so did she. She was talking in french, I have NO idea what she was saying but i think the gyst was come with me and ill help you figure it out. I was looking up the train schedule on my phone and found a way to get there it was just going to take a bit which was fine. So im trying to tell her that in english as we are waiting in line at the ticket office that I am just going to get back on the train. We Walk outside and she is insistent that i go look at what im assuming is the boat beacuse I was going way out of the way to get there when it was just across the lake. anyway i think thats what she was saying. So we walk over to the boat dock and she is speaking french to the ticket lady who is kinda kinda translating. It came down to my two problems: wait 2 hours for a boat, or have her drive me. The cute old lady drove me all the way to my school on the other side of the lake haha. I felt so bad but i dont think it was too far out of her way. haha and when i got out of the car she hugged and kissed me. haha. Pretty rediculous.

So I walk in and I have made it at the same time my friends did who caught the boat which takes an hour to cross. We all checked in which was a little bit dramatic. We had all chosen roomates but they had already assigned us rooms so only a few of us got our choice. The rest of the day was pretty relaxed and uneventful. We went to the grocery store and I bought a ton of food so I won't have to buy dinner while i'm here. Then we all just kinda hung around and talked. They have a nice workout facility downstairs but I don't have workout clothes and the eliptical doesn't work which was the one thing I wanted to use. The rooms here are really nice. They crammed 5 of us into the same size room at the last place we stayed and we have a fridge and a TV which I can't figure out how to work. The view from the other side of the buliding is gorgous... it looks out over the lake and the mountains and the little cities over there, But I have a view of a green hill. grr. It is a pretty green hill with a very vocal rooster. haha. More later... off to breakfast.

Interlaken

Interlaken :)

So this morning I woke up before everyone as usual so I decided to go for a walk down to the lake. The view from our window is so beautiful and the bed was so cozy. I went And wandered around for about an hour. I didn't know where the beach was so ended up walking through someones front yard haha. Finally found the beach which is goregous. They have a lawn and sea kayak you can borrow and a floating dock out in the lake and a standing dock. There were two adorable swans there that wanted me to feed them... Either that or they were as interested in me as I was them. Don't think I've ever seen a swan so close. I sat on the dock for about 30 min and then hiked back up to our place. Everyone was still asleep haha. When they woke up we made breakfast and then went back down to the dock, this time with our swimsuits on. I got one of the canoes out and put it in the water which stared to fill with water but not very fast so I got in. Made it almost out to the floating dock before the water reached my bum so I booked it back to the shore and hurried out. Now with wet jeans which took all day to dry. I froze to death. Then andrew jumped in and I put my feet in. So so so cold. So we decided to run off the dock and jump in. It was te coldest lake in the world. Like I jumped in and swam as fast as possible to shore. We later found out that it's really dangerous and last year 4 asains did it and died of heart attacks. Oops. We survived don't worry.

Then we ran home and I layed in bed trying to heat up. We caught the next train into town and walked around in a search for pants or a jacket for me. Finally found a fleece just in time. We then got on a bus to go white water rafting. They had us put on wet wetsuits and shoes... Still freezing. Little did I know that was the warmest I was going to be for another 5 hours. We all loaded on the bus and drove up the canyon about 20 min to the put in. Got all the info an chose the goregous guide and headed down to the river. Oh my god was the water cold. Glacier water. Glacier. Water. Which coincidentally was the same river that runs into the lake we swam in earlier. Awesome. So I sat in the front of the boat... Noooot my best idea. Facefuls of glacier water, it went down my wet suit and they made us grab onto the line that ran along the boat. Mind as well have just put my hand in the water the whole time. I smartened up and stopped listening to that command after a while. But there were 2 sets of rapids that were so much fun!! And it was 7 of us from class in one boat.. Good bonding experience. We had to take out and then drive about 5 min and put back in the river because of a nature reserve. I thought we were done and I was so exicted becuase I could not even feel my left hand at this point it was so frozen. But we got back in. Right when we put in we did these class 4 rapids called the double f***er which was so intense!!! We have pictures that someone off shore took. Don't worry. Oh and my mouth is wide open in every picture. Get excited. But the first part of the rapid we went off this 4 foot-ish drop. So much fun!! That rapid was a ton of fun. Then we pulled over to wait for the other boats and they found a throw bag floating in the river so we waited for about 15 min while our guides tredged through the current all roped to eachother to get it out. Then the rest kinda sucked because or was cloudy so it was feezing and we couldn't see the scenery. The river was just flat so we weren't working an just got really cold for about 20 min. Then we came out into the lake I had been swimming in earlier. Haha. Oh and bill I took the camera on the trip and guess what? It actually is waterproof!! Haha

We got on the bus and changed. My hands were so frozen I couldn't undue my helment, button my pants, zip my pants (you can imagine the friends i made asking someone to zip and button my jeans for me), zip my jackets or practically anything else that involved movement. It was rediculous. They gave us drinks and then we walked to the grocery store to get more food. I finally found a pair of tights and a sweater! Then we caught the train just in time to get home. Or that's what we thought. The train drove right past our stop and continued 20 min on down the road hahah. So we got some good pics of the lake and then got to walk around for 30 min until the next train. The boys were pissed hahha. Oh well!! We made it back and showered, those wet suits smelled so so bad! Ugh. Then I just wanted to goto bed but they all wanted to go out and eat so I felt obligated to go... So I went but I ate before we left to save money. Turned out I could have happily stayed home. We had to wait 30 min for the train...  We had the schedule wrong. I just sat and watched
Everyone eat, the chocolate fondue was torture so I left for the train back so I didn't have to pay for a taxi. I also got a rivella, The red one, which is a soft drink only available in Switzerland which is the #1 selling pop. It tasted like liquid smarties. Pretty good!

When we got home I just packed and then passed out. So tired! Happy fathers day! See you all tomorrow... My today hahha.

Switzerland

Switzerland!!!
So yetesterday we woke up late and didn't make the best train route but oh well. Julie, Arleigh and I headed to the station to catch the 8:30 train and about 8 hours later we arrived in zermatt switzerland where the Matterhorn is (a giant mountain) I already told you about the train fun between the seats and all... It ended up that There was train problems so we had to Make an unexpected switch in basel. I only found this out because some nice lady next to me translated the French over the intercom. When we got off some lady was having issues with her bag right in front of the elevator so julie and I stopped to help her... She had a small rolley bag and a large one with a big computer box she was trying to attach to it. She finally got it on and we got on the escalator. Now the fun part... she gets to the top and tilts her bag down so it will roll off easier. One bag in front... The computer. and the small rolley behind her. The escalator is packed. When she tilts it the bag doesn't go off and we all got stuck at the top. Moving escalator, packed full of people, it's still moving, pushing and yelling in different languages. And meanwhile Arleigh moves to get a better view to sit back and laugh. Haha it was rediculous!! We all made it with all our toes, don't worry!

Side note: I forgot to mention the elevator incident. So on our 2nd to last day of class we were on our way to tour the hotel school and so we all walked to the train station together. We were walking the normal way and look back and everyone is getting on the elevator and they are holding the doors saying run! Run! So we ran... Hoped on. All 19 of us. Hahah weellll the capacity was 17 people which we knew but figured hey it'll work. It didn't. We made it about a foot an a half and jiggidy boom we come to an abrupt halt haha. We were stuck 19 people crammed in an elevator for about 30 minutes haha. This old couple biked by... Keep on mind this is a glass elevator and we are all in our white button up shirts with black pants and skirts with ties and neck scarfs... And so they stop and laugh. Obviously, I would too. The fire truck came, the elevator repair man came, crow bars. They eventually got us out. Hahah hilariours and very hot. The windows started fogging up and we had to crack the door with my book.

So we get to zermatt. The last train ride up was the most goregous train I think I'll ever ride. Amazing. And expensive. We took a "taxi" to our hostel. They don't allow cars int the town of zermatt so their vehicles are little electrically run boxes. You can only own one if your business requires it. So after we hecked in we went out to eat at this little place. We were all famished so. Then Arleigh and I walked around town for a while and looked at the wierd houses on stilts. The town was pretty much in a cloud so we couldn't see too much which I was really bummed about. I really wanted to see the materhorn but no luck. We went to bed early and then I woke up at around 6 to see if the fog had lifted... It was worse and raining so I went back to bed. I couldn't even see the mountain next to us. At around 9 we went and had breakfast at a little place. The food is just mediocre and entirely too over priced. It's like vail but more expensive. After that we bought lunch and started to hike up the Swiss alps. We did about a five hour hike and ran into some cute little random villages on the side of the mountian. I'm guessing they were there for ski season so people could ski in. But some people lived there and had cows, who wear bells by the wAy. Big ones. Then we hiked to sunnegga paradise gondola for all of you who are googling this. And then back Down through tufteren and Reid back into zermatt. The clouds came and went. On the accent we were in a cloud for the most part and couldn't see anything. Still no sight of the Matterhorn. Once we got up to the gondola the clouds got worse and it was freezing! We were not prepared to hike the alps. Ar. Was in jeans and Nike airs... Not hiking shoes. Julie gym shorts and Nike shocks and me in her yoga pants, I only have jeans, and also nike shocks. Haha.  People are wearing intense mountain gear and we look rediculous. On the hike down the clouds started to clear and we started to see some beautiful scenery. It is by far the best hike I have ever ever been on. Pictures don't even describe it. Goregous!!! And then finally we saw it! The Matterhorn! I was so so excited. The girls didn't really care at all but I just sat there staring at it. We never got to see the whole thing... But the third we did see was enough for me. That peak is amazing. So differently shaped than anything I've ever seen. The mountains were so high all around us with waterfalls flowing down them and clouds fastly moving past. It was like a dream.

When we got down we were beat. We grabbed our bags and ate the most expensive lunch ever and barely caught the train down. We arrived in interlaken around 7 and called the hotel because we had no idea where to go. He came and picked us up at the station and took us to get groceries. Haha dude ended up being crazy. Told us so much info I was tAking notes haha. He wouldn't stop talking! He took us to the apartment and gave us the most detailed walk through I could have ever imagined. It took use about an hour and a half to get rid of him haha. We were all just holding back our laughter... Or trying.

Out apt is pretty nice. I have a kitty comforter. Speaking of. The dogs here are so well behaved. Don't need leashes, they come into

Alright to interupt myself again. The crazy man just called me to inform me that I should go pick up my friends at :26 and they just arrived. Hahahah hilarious

Anyway the dogs just chill in the restaurants and they have trained them to poop on the sides of the streets so no one steps in it. They don't bark. They are amazing.

Our apt. Has a kitchen... Hence the grocery store stop. And it has an awesom view of the lake. But it is raining. Ufgg. It going to never stop. So tonight we just made dinner and we are waiting for our friends to arrive. I need to Leave in 13 min haha.  Maybe the old man will call  to remind me. Haha. Well I'm off but more later!
Loves and misses!

Maastricht end and germany!!!

Day who knows... I thought it was Wednesday. Turns out it's Friday.
So I haven't written in a long time... That's because I was in class. And it was real boring. Real boring. So I'll give you a brief recap of the past however long it's been. So we ended up leaving amsterdam a night early because it was so sketch. I still have big bites all over me from that night. Awesome. The next day in Maastricht we just chilled. Went and saw sex and the city... Which they have an intermission during the movie. Weird. The next 3 days we had class and a lot of homework. We did a lot of homework. Had a 9 page hand written final report to do.... Alone. Yay!! My group sucked... One guy would have been helpful except it was his 21st birthday sooo and then the other girl had nothing useful coming out of her mouth so. Did it alone... Whatever.  During the last couple days of class we toured this hotel which has been converted into a hotel but originally was a church. It was so amazing!!! They had a floating restaurant and a sweet glass wine cellar And a giant egg for an office. Sounds weird but it was so cool. I have pictures.

We also toured the hoge hospitality school which was a really long tour and we had a lotmof homework that we needed to do but it was pretty awesome... Thr beginning of the tour anyway. They had converted a castle into a hotel. Amazing! I would highly suggest staying there if you goto Maastricht! There most expensive room is around 100 euros and you get multiple bed rooms and the top of the castle with a goregous view and a swing and an attached spa. Sweet. But we toured around a bunch of rooms and everyone was so unique! The inside of he hotel was white. White white. Even the names and numbers on the wall were white. But the insides we rediculous. There was a green room. Bright green walls and carpet. Another room was the fishntank and we didn't get to see it but she described it to us. It was all blue and had the underneath of an elephant swimming on the ceiling. Wowzers.  Another room had a bed and then full scale kitchen where you could cook or ask one of the students to come up and cook a meal for you. Another room had a goregous bathtub and then a huge library in the room with red bookshelfs. another had the toilett right in the door. Were talking open your hotel door to a toilet. Haha they had big gold spoon knickers on the door so you could warn someone before you entered. Definatly something you'd talk about...
They also have a pretty sweet masters program but I don't really have 30 g's right now. It's half in barcelona and half in maastricht and you get 2 masters. Wow! And they are a really good hospitality school. World renown. Ooh.
They fed us huge portions... We were all so hungry! Def not loosing any wieght on this trip. Beer bread and cheese is my diet. Great. That night I did homework until 10 and then got ready and went out for steves birthday. The next day we gave our presentations and then walked around town. We went to the bookstore... Also used to be a church! So beautiful... Everything is just better here. Then I finally convinced people to go into the church in the square. Oh my god was that cool! They aren't as strict over here and hey let you do anything and go anywhere... Not like in America. Everything wouldve been roped off. They had this beautiful square in the middle. Garden and trees the huge steeples all surrounding us! Wow. They also had a tresure room with gold everywhere and a crypt in the basment. Creepy but awesome. Then the chaple itself was again beautiful. Tall ceilings and pretty stuff. You'll have to just see the pics because we all know I'm not going to give it any justice from my description.

That afternoon I took a 3 hour nap and then booked our trip in zermat and we all hung out and packed but no one went out. It was a pretty fun night! I really love the people here. Well I should say I really love half of the people. Hahah. So I slept in my own sheet in Amsterdam and after that experience I wrapped it in a bag. Tightly. So I hadn't taken it out because I was scared. So Julie helpe me unfold it and check for bugs. It was all good until there it was. Bug. Ugh ufggg so I put it back in the bag and stole on from the hostel.

Next morning woke up uber early! Walked to the train station which was hilarious because Julie (a different one) an Stephanie have gigantic luggage! Were talking like 130 pounds for Julie. A whole separate bag for her 12 pairs of shoes. Haha. So a lot uncomfortable sleep and train switching later...
Side note: so we are on our way to zermat as just switched trains.. We had 7 minutes to make the switch which is fine but keep in mind we don't speak German. Apparently the train is having problems so we have to get on another train to get some other train. I'm a little fuzzy on the details if you couldn't tell. Actually a lot fuzzy. But we got on the train. We can only sit in second class but we got on the first class and walked through to the second class sections. Still don't speak german. Walked alll the way and there are all these people waiting at the doors with their luggage which normally means they are waiting to get off. Nope. Trains full! Haha so now we are sitting where you put the luggage. Literally in between two peoples seats. Crammed in like sardines. Haha people just walk by and laugh at us.

We arrived in Munich. Munchen in German. Got to our hotel which is heaven! So nice and there is candy everywhere! Mmm went out to old town and walked to a beer garden which is not like a garden of hops where they make beer. It's just a place where people drink a lot of it. So we get there and order giant beers and food. Ohh the food. I didn't even want to come to Germany... Didn't think there was anything for me to see there. but it is probably my favorite country so far. Love it. Well I ate in the train station. Stupid. So I just watched everyone eat their delicious food, but the beer was good! Arleigh had her colorado state shirt on and the guy next to us stopped her and goes there too! Small world. So he drank with us and we played cards for about 2 hours And then went home to get ready. Arleigh and Julie went with him to watch the game and we met up with them a couple hours later. They were tired so they went home and the other Julie and Stephanie and Terry (the boy) and his German fiend and I all went out to a club. Wednesday night. No one was there. It sucked. Terry turned out to be a creeper. A lot too clingy so I left they all stayed. I took a taxi home alone... Don't worry I didn't get raped or sold into sex slavery or whatever else you're worried about. I was too. Hah. Got home passed out.

Alright so yesterday. Almost caught up. I'm on around hour two writing this thing. That's some dedication right thurr.  So we woke up and had their amazing breakfast. The other girls called us twice to make sure we were up and I call them an hour later and they are still sleeping. Ugh life story. Ar needed to goto the post office which was the longest most difficult adventure of my life. People don't speak English as much anymore... Things are getting more difficult. So then we walked to the train station forever away and headed off to dachau concentration camp. Real happy. Took a train to a bus and then arrived. It was pretty intense. You walk in through gate and there are bunkers on the left and a big building on the right. The place is huge. It was supposed to hold
6000 prisioners but they put 32,000 in. Crazy. They had torn down all of the bunkers except 2 which was dissappointing. It was pretty much just a huge barbed wired in gravel field. They had built a couple new buildings like churhches. We walked through the crematorium where they told them they were going to shower and then put the jews in the gas chamber. We walked through the holding room, the place where they undressed, the gas chamber with fake shower spouts, the creamtorium- they had 4 big ovens which about 3-4 bodies could fit in, the room where they kept the bodies and the place where they disinfected the clothes. Pretty intense. There was this goregous walkway which was so green but if you read what it used to be it's pretty messed up. We saw where the rifle stood to shoot the Jews, where the Jews stood and the blood ditch below them. There was also the place thy kept all the ashes in the ground. After that we walked around the museum. We could have spent the whole day in there reading all the horrific stories but we wanted to do other things too so we made it brief. I read about all the medical experiments they did. So so so messed up. Freezing people to death, changing air pressure so fast peoples brains would burst, malaria. It was rediculous all the stuff they did.

Then we left and took the train all the way into town. So glad we figured the train out! It took us exactly where we needed to be! Yay. Then we decided to do mikes bike tour! Pretty expensive but so worth it. It was the most fun I've had so far! The guide was vulgar and hilarious! We all tootled around town and saw some awesome things! We saw this yellow church that was all white on the inside! Beautiful. Im going to need to look up synonyms for beautiful awesome fun and pretty soon.  Hah we also saw this gold trail which was put there after WWII to commemorate all the people who took this ally instead of the main street so they didn't have to hail hitler. Don't worry I have a pic of me on it. And I guess they have a camera set up in that sqaure during some Nazi holiday and of they see anyone hail hitler they find them and put them in jail for months. So then we biked to the beer garden... Which was more gardenish and seats some 6,000 people. Wow. Had a giant beer and some potato and sausage thing. Then continued the tour. Stopped and saw these people surfing on the river... So cool! Finished tour and then went to the hofbrauhaus for some drinks. We called the others who had just arrived and they came and met up with us. Coincidentally we were staying in the same hotel! We all got pretty drunk off of their ginormous beers. It's got to be like 3 beers in one. I had 2 and didn't drink half of the second one. It was a ton of fun! We all just played cards and clapped to the beat when the band played... I feel like it was a typical German night! Took the subway home and went to bed :) woke up late this morning so now we are on the train with more stops and something is wrong. If I spoke German I'd let you know and me.

We are on our way to zermat in Switzerland if we ever make it and then to interlaken and then to class in bouveret. should be more great times! I'll try to write sooner because this was like punishment... Aur voir!

Day 10

so after all the crap that went down the night before we were all kind of in a wierd mood. we slpit up the goup so traveling would be easier and less stressful and then we headed out to the anne frank house. We got there early enough that the line wasn't too long yet. It was crazy to walk through the place where they were in hiding! For some reason I thought it was going to be a lot smaller... not that it was big by any means. After that we were going to do a canal tour but the girls weren't really liking Amsterdam and didn't want to stay another night and we weren't sure when we were leaving so they didn't want to spend 22 euros on a canal tour. No canal tour for me. Shouldv'e gone in Bruges. OHH welll. So then we went and grabbed lunch and shoes. Changed clothes because I was in shorts and it never stops raining here. ever. We walked through the red light district... crazy. Girls in the windows for blocks and blocks. They were pretty nasty but according to the boys the prettier ones come out at night. Lets hope so. Then we just tootled around town for a couple hours and then came back to our hostel, packed up our bags and went to the train station. We all passed out on the train for about 3.5 hours. So tired. When we got in it was so sunny! SO nice to be "home". We decided to go out and have a beer and watch the world cup. But instead we ended up walking around the city and then searching forever to find a place to eat. Everything that was open was so expensive! and then by the time we found a place everything was closed but one restaurant. I ate soup... haha. It was all i could afford. But it was delicious! After that we just came back and went to bed... still at around 1:30 in the morning. Everyone should get home today which is exciting! I miss some of the people in the group. My allergies are terrible!!! It looks like I have pink eye... awesome. ANd I took my last allergy pill this morning. Off to find some mole skin and how to say allergy medicine in dutch. Should be interesting to say the least!
wish me luck.

Day 9

So today we woke up and sores our suff in the hostel... Lindy sktletchy but everything ended up fine so
yay! Then we went to the choco sort factory to do a tour on how chocolate was made and the history. It was kinda boring but the free chocolate and the deminstration at the end was neat. After that we went and grabbed breakfast in the market square. I didn't eat because I didn't have 25 dollars to spend on breakfast so I ended up findiNg a super market and eating there. After that we went to this building Which has a bell tower that we climbed. 366 steeeeep stairs... Quite a workout. Not everyone wanted to do it so just a few went! What a view though! After that we went to the town Hall whiCh was so beautiful! The paintings and architechture! I really wanted to do a canal tour butwe decided to do one in Amsterdam instead... Which now that we are in Amsterdam and not going to do one I'm even more upset I didn't get to yesterday. Oh well I guess. We went and did a brew tour which was very interesting... Learned a lot about brewing. Then we headed back to the hostel to leave. Got on a train and arrived in Amsterdam around 8 and then found our hostel in the red light district. Sketchy!!! To say the least. We went to dinner... Never an easy task it seems. Came "home" to some random roomies. Guy on the bunk above me fell off his bed right as we all fell asleep... then proceeded to puke everywhere. Mmm just great. Then looking at another bed there were bugs crawling all over the blankets. Awesome. And we are right above all the bars. Luckily I slept throgh the noise. Hopefully tonight is better!

Day 8

Yo yo
So I really don't want to write this but here it goes. First of all I'd like to say that I'm on the train and it says "we komen aan in" bahahahha like were coming on in. and "deze trien stopt en" like this train stops in. Hahha Dutch is hilarious.
Ahhh so yesterday we arrived in Bruges which is goregous just like every other place. It is a quaint little town in Belgium. Has 2 squares with pretty awesome buildings. All the rooftops are pointy. They have canals eveywhere and cobblestone streets.
So we get in and take the bus to some random stop because we don't speak the language. Ask directions from other tourists and head off to our hostel... Charlie rockets. Which is really a bar with places to sleep upstairs haha. It was pretty nice! 6 person dorm and we filled 3 of the spots. Ended up with 2 more randoms staying with us. We dropped our stuff and then just walked around. Explored for about an hour or two and then went to eat at this place they suggested in my Europe book. 3 courses for 16 euro. I got a cheese starter which was deep fried and melted in the center. Sooo good. And then I had their beef stew for dinner which was a on a plate with a gilled apple and cinnamon and the meat juices on the plate and the meat was in a circle with mashed potatoes on top that had bread crumbs on them torched so the texture was amazing. So good! For dessert we had chocolate mousse which was just ok. When we got back to the hostel the rest of our group had arrived so we ended up sitting down in the bar and drinking all night. These cute British boys were there but they left... So we sicked Julie on them hahah and she convinced them to come drink with us! So much fun. So as usual we stayed up until 4 am and got to sleep in until 9 which was nice. Off to another day.

Traveling and Paris!!!

Day 6 and 7

Bojour and bonswar!

So on the 7th because we all know I barely know the date much less the day! I think it's Wednesday but honestly I have no idea! Anyways on that day we had class... Which sucked as usual. But I was going to wake up early shower... Maybe take myself out for breakfast but I swear it is IMPOSSIBLE to goto bed before 2 am and more realistically 3am which would be fine if we could sleep in a little but no such luck! 5 alarms went off, 5 people ignored them all, and we woke up at 8:57 for our 9:00 class. Awesome. So went to class. Packed like a maniac after, didn't have time to finish lunch, briskly walked to the train. Did got my doughnuts though!!! And oh my god they are amazing. Like if I had to plan my last meal ever... They will definately be there. I can't even put it into words how good they were. You'll just have to take my word for it! I'm getting more in 4 days! And everyday until we leave!

So then we got on the train off the train on the train off the train about 6 times until we got to Paris. Traveling with 9 people is crazy stressful especially with she who shall not be named. Its like travelling with an evil version of my mother. EVIL. So Arleigh, Julie and I went and grabbed a beer in between trains and then sat in a different cabin. Ahhh so peaceful. I wEnt up to pay for our beers and I got swarmed by like 4 men... I started talking and they were like oh wow! You speak English very well! Hahha of course I do. It was funny. When we got off the train They found us again though. When we got to Paris we had to figure out the metro station which luckily I bought an app on my phone with an interactive map. Completely worth the $1.00! Life saver! Made it to our hotel.. The mariott on the champs de élysées! Google it... Ahhhh-mazing! Living the lapse of luxury! Well kinda... Sleeping 3 to a queen bed and 2 on the floor sucks! But hey we had a privae entrance to our room and our own wing! Just our 2 rooms! And the shower! I already miss it! Won't see that again for a while! Right by the arc de triumph! So then we went to eat because some of us hadn't eaten all day and it's now midnight. Had the most delicious ham and cheese sandwich toasted with the cheese on top! Sooo good! Then off to bed... but once again she who shall not be named sat on the end of the bed and did god knows what and kept us awake until 4am. Ugh so up at 7 to avoid travelling  with a giant group.

So paree!
Woke up Eaaaaarly! Ug so early. But headed out with Arleigh and Julie and headed toward the direction of the Eiffel tower! Grabbed a croissant au choclaut along the way and finally found it! So amazing! We bought tickets and took a tram/ elevator to the top! The most amazing views of paree! Don't worry we got some great pics... More pics than we are going to know what to do with! Got down grabbed a sandwich from this adorable little shop and then got a bottle of wine. The shop keeper offered to open it their hahah how well he knows us. Got on a bus with an open roof and toured around the city! Which was so much fun! Stopped at the miser de louvre. Hah so we were walking around the outside of this giant castle looking thing looking for the museum and arleigh is telling me that that is probably it... Meanwhile I'm looking for a giant glass pyramid which I've heard is the entrance. Still walking around the outside of the castle.. Ask this African man where it is. Won't tell us until we help africa. Help Africa. He points to the castle hahah. So now they think I'm crazy about the glass pyramid. Walk into the castle thing and into this giant square walk and they are giving me so much crap about the pyramid and we look through the next entrance onto a giant glass pyramid!!! Hahhah it was pretty great. It was closed but we were too poor to go in anyway. Back on the bus to the norte dame cathedral. Toured it. Saw Americas next top model???? We think being filmed. Don't worry it's documented. Back on the bus drove around. Went to the opera which the auditorium was closed for rehersal and by this time we are exhausted!!! Finished the tour and didn't get back of the bus until the palace I wanted to go in. No one else wanted to so we walked home. I limped home. We have walked SO much that my right foot has some serious bruises just where the flip flop lies. Ow it hurts so bad. Have tennis shoes on now and still in a ton a pain. Guess I'm not wearing those shoes for a week or so. Got to the hotel and all climbed into bed. Took a 3.5 hour nap hah and went to dinner. We are always rushing here... Trains, buses, reservations, Eiffel tower lights. Always running to our next spot. Met up with the whole group for our dinner in Paris which was soo good! Crab cakes. Hake which is a fish and rice, and amaretto cherry rice pudding stuff. All delicious!

Walked home and stopped at mc. Donalds (the only place with free wifi) and booked our hostel in Amsterdam! 10 person room... We fill 6 of that right in the red light district hahaha. Should be an experience!

Got the group together and headed off to the Eiffel tower to see the twinkly lights. Don't be fooled into thinking that is an easy process... Took about an hour to round everyone up. As usual. Walked there and saw the lights as we were so close. More running. Missed em. They are only on for 5 min on the hour so we waited an hour and took some pics in the mean time. More from the group showed up... Lights went off. Ooohed and ahhhhed and then walked fast home to get away from the drunk ones and she who shall not be named. Had a nice walk home with Andrew, Jake and Julie! Went to "bed" but didn't really until about 3am. Again.

Woke up at 7 and figured out what trains we needed to take. Not easy. got another amaZing breakfast at a little bakery and once again briskly walked/ ran to make the metros and our train. We are on our way to bruges Belgium now.

This whole experience is just hilarious! It is just so humorous to deal with the language barrier! Sitting in the bathroom listening to Arleigh try and order a beer... "beer do you have beer? On tap?" Confussion... They don't understand tap. "Well where is it?" Like whAt is it out of? Hahha

It's all just humorous. I feel like a dog. I've got my five words I know. Thank you. Good morning. Good evening. Bless you. Please. The end. That's all I've got hahha. It's too funny. And no matter how slow or clear they speak.. I've got nothing. I will never again speak to someone slower in hopes they understand. They don't. It does make for some great stories though...
I'll give you one more.
We get on the train and Arleigh goes to find the bathroom which is downstairs. Julie and I are just sitting there talking and we hear her "water? Water?" hahah we are all confussed on why she wants water? Well the name for bathrooms here is water closet (aka WC) and she couldn't remember the closet part and he had no idea what she was saying. So funny just to hear her though!!
hope all is well back home! I'm having the time of my life out here! See you in bruges :)

Day five yo

Last night tried to goto bed at 10 because I was so tired but ended up reading my whole book and passin out at 2. I'll sleep later... Was supposed to be tonight but judgjng by the fact it's already 11:30 it's not lookin too good. Well today we went to some town... I'll try to find the name haha but it was so pretty. They had caves that you could tour and a castle but we didn't have enough time so we just walked around. So many cyclists everywhere! I'm in love! I seriously saw hundreds of cyclists in this town... Biking, eating at cafes. Erevywhere! I cheered 2 guys going up a hill and they were like "gratzie gratzie!" haha. I found a little sandwich shop and since as it turns out I can't speak Dutch I asked him what to get. It was a beef and pork meat with coleslaw. Very good! Then we went to tour the casino and learn how to gamble haha! I didn't win so don't get excited. It was really interesting to hear what the gm had to say but they gave us a glass of champagne which put me to sleep... I've been sleeping a lot sitting up lately hahah. After that we went to drilandenpunt which is where you can stand in the netherlands (holland), Belgium, and Germany. I got pretty sick of the group so went on a walk by myself... Shouldve left earlier because again it was so pretty. Got my waffel finally!!!! Hell yes! Needed more sugar! Got back on the bus and went to the American world war two cemetary in the netherlands... It was awesome to see but kinda sad. So many crosses. Tried to take a few artsy pics... You'll be proud masha.  Hah then back on the bus to home. Took a nap. Went out to eat with Jake, Andrew and Lauren back to kiwi. It was pretty good but I didn't like my salad. Herb dressing nasty. Then came home did home work and chilled. Not too much going on and the town is dead!!! So we leave for Paris tomorrrow after another rough day of class. Ugh class. But Paris should be amazing! Love love

Day 3 and 4

Hello all!
Well the end to that night where I left off was a ton of fun but maybe a little too much! Haha. The bars here... Or should I say the disco- techs are crazy! So much fun! They play American music techno-ized... Thy are always bumpin the Tenno! Always. They start playing it at around 10 am at the place we are staying! We will just be sitting in class and all of the sudden unzta untza untza the techno starts! Haha I think I'm a fan. Class is terrible and we made the teacher cry... Twice. Personally I think shenis being a little over- sensitive but what do I know? We were expecting something very different than what we are learning so we expressed our concern and just wanted to talk about it and see what was up which apparently was very upsetting to her.
We went out last night too and no one shows up until about 1 on the morning which makes 9am class a ton of fun to wake up for when we went to bed at 4 in the morning! Oh well I'll sleep in a couple months! It was in but there was some drama with one of our girls just leaving without telling anyone and then getting yelled at for being too loud. Stupid girl. I try to avoid her.
The town here is so awesome! I feel like it is so safe and I am learning my way around town! People are kind of directionally challenged so I am the navigator of the group. Hah. It is so goregous here! The bulidings and the little streets that are so narrow! I'm startig to get shin splints from walking around so much! Hah we walk a lot! Tonight about 10 of our 19 person class went to dinner at this place called kiwi. It turned out to be the student run restaurant in town and it was very cheap and had great food! We have been having a lot of trouble ordering off the menu because everything is in dutch! But teach told us today that I guess they have menus in English you just have to ask. That info would have been useful about 4 days ago!!! Hah. After dinner we went to go get dougnuts accross the river but of course it was closed! The whole town shuts down at like 6! Which sucks! We settled for ice cream instead...
Tomorrow we go on a field trip! Thank god! If I have to sit in that classroom another day I'm going to fall asleep! Oh wait I already fall asleep. Oops! Not for too long don't worry! Um but we are going to a casino in Germany and then some cemetary and then some place where we can stand in the Netherlands, Germany And Luxembourg??? At one time! Ooh ahhh. So I'm excited for that! The sun get up so early here... Around 4:30 am and sets at around 11:00 pm it's crazy! So nice though
we travel in 2 days! Heading to Paris then Bruges then amsterdam! Get excited! I am. Travel arrangements have been rough to make since we didn't have too much info about it... Bit that's a whole other story!
Well I'm off to do who knows what!
Love love

Day two

Hello all!
Today we started our first say of class! Minusthe exclamation point. It was a lot different than I expected! So far it is just us talking about random stuff... Which I'm not too sure about. A lot of the people in the class just love to hear themselves talk which is annoying! Ugh but hopefully tomorrow we will learn more since I am paying so much money! We have some homework already which is no fun hahah but after class we went out to dinner on the river and ordered some random thing off the menu which ended up being delicious! It was similar to a gyro. Mmm mmm good! Then we walked around for a little and went to my favorite square so far! It has a huge red a steeple. Now we are in a bar and about to go find the hopin place haha. More later! Love love.
Ps I'm not comin home!

Hondenpoep in dez bak! Day one

Day one
Today I said goodbye to the parents and went on a really long flight to Belgium. The flight was 8 hours and terribly uncomfortable, but very worth it! Nothing is in English and navigating around is kind of difficult but I ended up running into my friends at the airport! We got our luggage and then headed for the train station which was in the airport. We couldn't find our teacher and so decicded to just buy a ticket and meet at the next stop but as we were buyin them we ran into our teaher and the rest of the group! So we were off to Maastricht in the Netherlands. The train ride was awesome! Vineyards and olive trees and green fields with little cottages. It was beautiful! And the towns we passed had these narrow streets with huge apartments. It's like one big building with different fronts and roofs. Then about an hour later we got into Maastricht. We walked from the train station to our hostel which is right on the water of the river. From there we headed into town which has a ton of shopping and had lunch at a pizzeria. I chose a random thing off the menu because I can eat pizza anywhere! It kinda tasted like ravioli... It was delicious! Then we walked around the town and found some cool squares and chappels and streets. It's so beautiful here! I don't think I'm coming home! Sorry. We wandered into this church which turned out to be a place to keep historical stuff. Yes that is the technical term for it! Google it. Hahhah. Well when we were in their they had these giant rock slabs woh carvings on them presented on this glass and steel table... But while i was looking at that arleigh- another girl from CSU -was obsessed with this wall that looked like it had a revolving door. It did. It was so amazing! Some giy who worked there came in and just pushed one side and the whole wall turned! We got to go in! It was so awesome!!! We also found dinner for tomorrow (or today now) at this little meat and cheese shop! Smelled so good we had to go in! Everyone was exhausted from being up for 24 hours now so we headed back to out hostel and got some beers and went to our orientation hahah. It's going to be a good trip. We "BBQ-Ed" at the hostel which apparently consists of them handing us a platter of raw meat and us grilling it ourselves... It was interesting! After dinner we just walked around town some more and sat in a little square and drank a bottle of wine with friends! When we came back I really wanted to read my book but considering that I just woke up at 5:30 in the morning I'm guessing that didn't happen! Hahah. And now I am off to another day of adventure! Love you all!
Ash
Oh and one last thing. Dutch is awesome! It is the most hilarious language I have ever read. It's like English with less spaces and more letters.... Hilarious!!! I can't even make it down one street without bursting out in laughter about a sign! Or trying to say one! I took a picture of the please pick up your dogs poop sign! I'll try to post the picture but no promises! But here is whAt it said, "Hondenpoep in deze bak" hahahha put the poop in the bag! Deze bak! Tooo funny. Don't worry I'll post more hilarious sayings. They are  entirely too funny to pass up!
Adios! ( beacause I still don't know how to say bye in Dutch! That's goal number one for today! Along with some other key phrases so we don't sound so stupid any more!)
